Heater problems?

Don't know if this is a jeep problem or not. My 89 YJ will belch a cloud of steam, occaisonally, when the thermostat opens. Annoying at the best. Can't find a reason, myself. I make sure I have a rag handy, so I can see.

when you turn the heat on in the cab? wow, that is odd. my 87 doesn't do that. i wonder if the heater core is in need of replacing and weeps a little

Where is the cloud of steam coming from?

Any air in the system will cause minimal to no flow in the system eventually leading to overheating. No flow will leads to no heat.

Does it do it every time? or just after it rains. Maybe your drain for the air intake box is plugged. If it does it every time, i would guess that the heater core is the culprit.

It doesn't do it all the time.
Usualy when the temps are around 15 degrees. It doesn't smell like antifreeze ansd it's not oily

thats weird
Agree. Only time something like this has happened to me was if i was working hard outside and got real sweaty and got into a vehicle. When the heat started drying me out it would fog up the windows.

Maybe it has something to do with the fresh air box in the cowling leaking into the heater and then when it heats up frozen moister melts, hits the heat exchanger and you get the steam. Just a wild a** guess.
