Heater Control cables '78 CJ

Hi gang,
Well Betty's cable pull for the AIR control (off vent heat) has hyperextended. I seem to recall this was linked to an ancilliary cable that connected to the heater door. The thing is, what with all the cable harnesses under and around the heater plenum, it's hard to locate. Does anyone have an exploded diagram of the heater cable assy? Even my factory manuals fail to have this.

My diagrams don't show it either, but there is a cable that runs from the vent flapper in the cowl along the upper duct to a point near the fan on the passenger side. My heater like most of my CJ is in a pile of parts waiting to be reinstalled in the new body & I'm running a little low on remembering fluid so I'm not sure exactly where/how the 2 cables connect. Anyway there is an adjustment point on the cable that runs along the upper duct...I think you can reach it behind the defroster duct without removing the unit. Hope that helps!!

upon further review.....Holy cats I's wrong agin! I just took a closer look at the cable & duct pile that was/will again be my heater. The Air(off-vent-heat) cable does indeed run behind the upper duct, but it connects to a double elbow type mechanism that opens & closes the vent & then opens & closes the heater flap.A rod then connects to a cable that goes to the passenger side(near the blower motor)....the adjustment point I mentioned is on the right of the fan. Sorry for the misinfo.....it looks like you're going to have to pull the upper duct to get to the mechanism. That double elbow is prone to jamming(mine was) & it took a lot of lube & working it to get it moving smoothly. Good luck!!

No problem Tom, after seeing the Jeep Heater Blower Motor Upgrade page, I'll likely make this my summer project and address the cables then.
