heat wont work!

Hi! Long time reader, first time poster.

Anyways... Man, it is cold in Indiana right now!

I own a '93 Wrangler. A while back there was steam coming from my defroster which led me to eventually put in an all-new heating system (radiator, hoses, heater core, thermostat, and thermostat housing) but there's still no heat!

Any suggestions? Someone at work said maybe the fan-clutch(which does seem to be broken) or the fact that the A/C is empty? I had to empty it to replace the heater core...

Could either of these be keeping the heat from getting hot?

Please help! It's COOOOLD!

Thanks.

Oh yeah...

Also the in-dash temperature gauge stopped working...

Is the heater fan blowing cold air or is the fan not blowing? If the heater fan is not blowing it's an electrical issue. If the fan is blowing cold air I would suspect the thermostat is not opening or there is an air pocket in the heater hoses &/or heater core.

The fan is blowing... cold air. My mechanic friend (who helped me replace the heater core yesterday) thought it could be an air pocket... how would you get rid of that? We tried pouring coolant into the upper heater core hose when it was not attached to the heater core. The coolant went into the engine and came back out the heater core where the hose was unhooked...does that make sense?

I really don't think it's the thermostat. It's the 2nd new one I installed since it first started overheating...thinking the first one may have came bad right out of the box.

Also, the lower hose from the heater core is nice and hot. The upper is cold.
