Didn't notice anyone post up about today being "the birth of Jeep"....
On this day in 1941, PARADE Magazine devoted three pages to what it called "the US Army's most intriguing new gadget." It was the American public's first introduction to the jeep. The Jeep proved to be so valuable in World War II that General Dwight Eisenhower said the U.S. could not have achieved victory without it.
on 15 Jul 1941, Willy's-Overland Co. signed the contract with the Army to produce the Jeep for the Army with the first delivery being on 1 Aug 1941!
Originally Bantam Car Company was awarded the contract for the Bantam (considered the Father of Jeeps), but because they couldn't meet production requirements the contract was awarded over to Willy's-Overland Company.
