Half-Marathon!

5 days until I run my first Half-Marathon.

It is the next step in my evolution as a runner. I plan on a pace of 9:40 per mile for the 13.1 miles.

I will be participating in The Slacker Half-Marathon - http://www.slackerhalfmarathon.com/

Charlie

Good luck, remember to eat a stack of pancakes, 6 strips of bacon and a gallon of orange Juice for breakfast the day of the run:purple: :purple:

JK, I really wish you the very best.;)

My brother started doing triathalons then moved up to marathons. That's just plain nuts. He told me that after every marathon his big toe nail turns blue and sometimes falls off. Screw that. What's even better is that he isn't one of those skinny bag of bones marathon types. He's a big strapping military type.
Good luck with it.

I am 200+ pounds. Strapping? doubtful!

Willing to run 13.1 miles? I actually do it all the time. Run a marathon? Doubtful...

whats the altitude of the race? Will that matter to you?

Yeah, you're up in the mountains...are you crazy?

I know you run thru Georgetown which is Elevation: 8512 ft... and you're going uphill toward loveland right? I know loveland is at 13,000ish at the top of the mountain..so the resort has to be at what...9,000ish?

Faggetaboutit!!

Good for you tho, hope you've trained at altitude! 3200-4500 ft change is pretty significant.

It is at elevation. Except you have it backwards. I'll run from Loveland Ski Area down to Georgetown. 2,200' drop in elevation. I have done enough training at elevation to accomplish this race. I've strengthened my quadriceps to take the downhill run. I talked to a friend that said the last mile or two streets curve and go up and down.

True - Loveland ski area is 10,630' and Georgetown is at 8,500'

I never claimed to be smart now... Just durable.

I was hoping to ride Saxon Mountain afterwards but I'm not sure if it is open.

Umm... Err... I'll pass on the acid/grease based large breakfast! After all, I want to run without power puking... It'll be more like oatmeal before and goo during!

2 days (well, 1 1/2 days) to go... I need to go and rest and hydrate...

Ohhhhhh...

Well, it's still impressive. You just went from Superman to Batman status. I still wouldn't do that.

Batman is so much better than Superman because he does everything as a human and a huge bank account ranther than special powers. So Cewtwo = Batman. With not having the cash to get the Jeep up and running to hit some trails with ya Cewtwo I will do some runs with ya. 10ks or Half Marathons.

GL in your race and stretch your shins so you dont get shin splints.

What a race! 700 some participants in this half-marathon. This was the start line. What a mass of people. I stayed near the back for the start.

Notice the snow on the continental divide behind the runners. It was a cold morning and made for a cold start. This race had 5 miles of trail and the rest was on pavement. It made for a dramatic drop in elevation over the distance. There were two killer hills and the last mile in Georgetown seemed to be straight uphill!

My friend, Carlos, met me near the finish line. He ran the 4 mile race event. He encouraged me on to the finish line. It was great to see him there!

This was not a fast race for me. Elevation for this race started at 10,630' and dropped to 8,500'. My legs paid the price. I had some problems with lactic acid buildup and my muscles felt the pain of a downhill run. But I finished the race and set a PR (Personal Record) of 2 hours 33.21 minutes. I am crossing the finish line here...

I am sooooo sore today. Yesterday was family from out of town day, so I spent many hours in the hot sun at Elitches (a local amusement park) walking about. It was a hard day to rest after that half-marathon run!

So a lot of you guys were correct! This was one killer downhill race!

And... If Batman is rich? I aint no batman, either!

man congratulations, I can barely walk briskly at 10,000 feet

awesome time...I'd be hurtin'!!! And I consider myself to be in descent shape. But I'm no runner.

Good Job on the race! With my luck I would trip and tumble down the first couple hills and hopefully have enough steam to flip and flop over the couple uphill portions.
