Why? Are you wheeling up here?

Yeah, its time we are planning our yearly trip to the San Juan mountains.
I'm in a real dilema here.... I own a Chevy Suburban and a Silverado 1500 and of course my XJ. Last year we just drove up and rented a Jeep for $110 per day. But this year we wanted to spend more time on the trail so I have been thinking of maybe towing my XJ up there on a trailer and use it to run around in. I would consider just driving it up but it's 700 miles and the XJ only gets around 14MPG and it would not hold everything our family(and maybe dog) needs for 7 days out. My truck is just a 1/2 ton with the 4.8 V8. Fine for everyday hauling a trailer load of whatever around. But if you plan on pulling another vehicle around in the mountains for 1500 miles I really need to think this out. The trucks manual says with the 373 gears that I can pull a trailer weight of 6800 max cargo. Well the jeep and trailer would weigh about 4200 then all of us and our stuff maybe another 1000 so I'm way under I think.
But I just don't know if its worth the hassle of going to this trouble of borrowing or renting a trailer or should I just rent a jeep again and just pay the money. I am going to ask for multiple day discounts. The most I will save by pulling my own jeep is 200-300 dollars in rental. I've got some more research to do...
