The little broken one.

It goes here:

See the broken end sticking out?

Had to pull the Holley and rig up the weber to run in its place because a buddy is borrowing my motorcraft well he is trouble shooting his bronco.

I have to find a heap universal throttle cable now

Man that super sucks. I hope this carb. Thing isn't contagious.

it really does suck. i am so bummed. my poor ol jeep was doing so good using that vacuum gauge.

i wonder what happend to that screw that caused it to turn so hard. it was turning ok yesterday, a little tighter then the other one but still turned. then today, i tried to turn it in to find bottom and it wouldn;t move so i thought "crap, did i leave it bottomed yesterday? no, i couldn;t have, it almost dies when its bottomed out." so i tried turning it back out and off the end snapped. when i pulled the carb, it had a lot of white crystals around the end of the needle, i wonder what that was?

at least that weber is on and semi running

here is the good mixture screw

here is the big uh-oh. see the throttle cable end pulls towards the firewall. the carb pulls towards the passenger side and the old jeep accelerator pulls upwards down by the trans linkage.

here is the old throttle making a 90 degree turn so i could drive to the auto parts store to get a universal off the parts wall.

i found out i also need to reset the trans linkage because i now shift at 2500 rpms, which is no fun. and, since the throttle was hooked to the old linkage spot on the trans connection, i could only get 60 percent pull on the carb. reminds me of the day i bought it and had to drive home 2 hours like that because the kid i bought it from did not know how to hook the carb up when he replaced whatever was on it from the previous owner. that is the reason he traded me for my cherokee.

i wonder if i should just put this weber on the offy intake tomorrow and fab it on. i have ot figure a way to get the tran linkage to hook up because the trans adapter mounts to the intake with three bolts and the offy only has one bolt.

see it, all by its lonely self

Do you guys have ethanol fuel in your part of the country? We have e10 fuel here and it's been causing a lot of problems. Its pretty corrosive and causes crystal like containments to get into the fuel system.

yes, we do. same mixture too, 10%. there are places you can get fuel without ethanol but i just get the 10% mixture because thats the closest gas station

I noticed when my rig would start and move it shifts very quickly into second gear. I hope this is not another freakin thing I have to figure out. My head hurts.

Yes it is. Gonnah have to adjust your linkage from the trans to the throttle. Let's get it started first. Was it running after you swapped distributors?

I believe the white crystals are ormed over the years from moisture in the fuel. I know that the powdery stuff is oxidation. A chemical reaction between aluminum and another material (like brass or bronze). If that screw broke and you need it to be drilled out, don't take chance of ruining the carb. See if you find a machine shop in your area to drill it out for you. If you not ind one, PM me and I will give you my address. I will take it out for you. Any way you look at it, you need to take the carb apart do drill that screw out. It might be a pain but is doable.

By the way, not a bad idea to sometimes take them mixture adjustment screws out totally, clean them out ad put just a tiny drop of white grease on the threads. Perhaps once a year. Remember that one carbs might be 15-20 years old and nobody touched them screws in years..... Aluminum doesn't rust like steel but corrodes in it's own way just like any other metal. I might not not know much about other stuff but I know a thing of two about metals after working with them for the past 43 years of my life....... LOL

Have you srayed the crap out of it with some type of penetrationg oil and put some vise grips on it to see if you can work it out. I would try that and if it snaps flush, then drill it. I have seen the adjusting screws at O'rileys auto parts, they were behind the counter on the wall.

I was thinking putting some penetrating oil on the threads, cutting a slit in the end, and seeing if I can back it out slowly.

no, not yet. had too much other stuff to do . the weber is on and running though

man, what a difference in how the jeep drives. this progressive weber is not a good choice for a jeep engine (and its the one weber sells for this motor). i feel like i have a four banger now. i can barely get out of my own way accelerating and everything is set right. when the secondary opens, hardly any change in performance (but you can hear a huge difference, woooooommmm, ha ha ha)
