Hey all! Well, once more Glitch has a "glitch". I lost pressure while shifting yesterday, and now it's stranded at the local Taco Hell. When I pulled off the resivior cap the DOT-3 fluid was a white, foamy color. Did the master cylinder take a crap on me? Do I just need to bleed the system to see if I still ha an air bubble from when I installed the slave a few months back? I'm in the dark.

Foam=air bubbles. It's probably got a leak. Check for leaks then replace it if necessary.

I don't know the exact placement of your slave, but my XJ used to leak down the inside of the firewall and down under the carpet. Check that out too.

I looked at the the Master Cylinder... it's the original one... it's getting replaced tomorrow, just in time for the big snow storm that's comming!

You said "shifting" earlier leading me to believe you were talking about the clutch slave cylinder. Now you are talking about the master cylinder. What's up? Which one are talking about? If it's the brakes then you need to look beyond the two lines coming out of the master cyl.

Ummm.. the title of this post reads "Clutch Master Cylinder." :P

I agree though, sounds ike air or maybe some foreign material entered the system.

Yeah, cause the foamy junk is it the reservior of the clutch mast cylinder. I ordered a master cylinder from the local auto store.... it's due for a changing anyway

I would guess that you blew an o-ring/gasket in the reservoir. Did the pedal get all soft and have no pressure to it? Replace the master and see. Should be easier to replace than the slave. I know some years have the slave on the outside of the transmission, but mine's inside and that sucks.

yeah, I hear ya hi_c...... I had to tear out the transmission to get to it earlier this year....that was a trip. I found out that the M.C. is OEM, so it should've been replaced a year or so ago. It'll be right as rain for tomorrows blizzard fest! hehe... fun!
