This question is aimed at Ecor and Darrin. But I am thinking of dumping my Dana 30 front end for a Dana 44.
I have two questions here ....
Cost of change over?
And would an ARB be better over a soft locker?

Just found this...

The soft locker is not a good Idea if you are still going to have auto hubs. The other problem with most soft lockers are they don't work in reverse (goes in and get stuck great then stinks backing out) :) I would go with currie, have them build it with an ARB and hold onto your ankles. Front axles are expensive. The other way if you are good at fabricating is to build it yourself. On a TJ you would need a 44 from a full size bronco around the 78 vintage. Then strip down the axles and make everything new. This would save you a couple grand if you know what your doing. If you have to pay someone else, buy the currie and install in your driveway yourself ( it's not that hard.) It can be done in about 2 hours.

Hope this helps
