Factory tow points

I know that the post 97 cherokees come with factory tow points in the front and rear in the UK.

However, I was wondering if they have those on US spec XJs as well? I always thought that it would be bad to use those points (since they are on one side) for towing a XJ, due to the unibody structure.

I'm certainly hoping that these tow points are strong enough to be used in mud/off-road recovery. If not, I'll be getting a class III rear hitch and front hooks.

They are an option on US XJ's. You can buy kits from many manufacturer's, and it's okay for vehicle recovery to pull from one hook. Hook to both if it's an unusually hard pull.

Another option is to get a front receiver hitch. You can use a clevis/shackle or even just a hitch pin would do in a pinch. It will actually strenghten the front end and some are made to fit flush so all you see is the 2" receiver coming out under the bumper.
