Just though I'd share:

CourtingDulcimer.jpg

Our newest musical acquisition. It's a "courting dulcimer"....pretty much the same as a mountain dulcimer only there are two sets of strings and two necks.
Back in the day.......in the mountains.........young lovers were not allowed to be alone when they were "courting". But, if the family had a "courting dulcimer", the two young'uns could retire to a private room and all was well as long as the sound of music was coming from said room!!
It's a really cool instrument which two of you play, facing each other, knee to knee (knee to knee with mudwoman!!!!!!! what more could I ask for!!!:D ).
It was made for us by Gary Capps, a guy in Missouri with a really cool website....check it out.......

Anyway, just thought I'd share!

Wow

I thought I had seen just about every instrument, Hammer and Mountain Dulcimers included, but I've never ever heard of that one.

Good find.:p

These are real guitars made from steel gas cans. The guy who makes and plays them is my favorite blues artist, James "Super Chikan" Johnson

You should here him do "Mennonite Blues"

A "Jerry-can" guitar!!!!!! Man, I'd love to hear that!!!!!!

On second thought, maybe not.........................might have to buy one of those, too!!!

I tell ya, if you like non-traditional blues, Chikan's the man!

I really like the old Delta blues guys.........Mississippi John Hurt, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Tommy Johnson, Sonny Terry, etc. Does he play that style????

Actually, I have seen one of those before, down in Winfield at the National Flatpicking Championships and Bluegrass Festival that's held there each September. A friend of mine had one, and man was she good on it! (That was back in the day before I met Sunshine, and lemme tellya, I wouldn't have minded being knee to knee with her in a parlor for a few hours!! Hubba hubba!!:p
