engine oil venting

I am having a problem with my 304 venting oil out of the filler spout. I have the edelbrock performer intake manifold and also the edelbrock 650 cfm carb. I have the pvc valve in the spot directly behind the carb and the vent hose pluged into the front of the carb where there is the center connector. This problem is turning the engine bay into a real mess and I want to get it fixed as soon as possible. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Thanks,

I have pretty much the same set up in my cj-5, except, I haqve a 360. What type of valve covers do you have? Are they vented?

I have the Edelbrock valve covers also and they are not vented. The motor seems to be in pretty good shape. It did sit for about 2 years without running. If the rings are bad would that cause this problem?

Thanks

YEA, that is what I thought you had. I have the same covers on my 360, it needs to be vented. I kept blowing the oil fill cap off of mine. Just take the covers off, and get, I think it was a 1" or 1-1/8" metal hole saw. pick a spot on top of the valve cover, and drill the hole in it. Then find the right size rubber grommet, (1" or 1 1/8") stick it in the hole you cut. Then install a breather cap inside the grommet. Mr Gasket makes the grommet and breather cap. I found mine at advance auto parts.

P.S. Check the size of the rubber grommet befor you cut the hole, a little snug is better!!!![addsig]

I had thought about doing this but I wasn't sure exactly how to go about it. So did this fix your venting problem? What type of breather did you use? Did you get the breather and the gromet at AutoZone?

thanks,

Len

Yes, this definitely fixed MY problem. Actually, I only vented the one side and it worked, I bought the grommet and chrome breather cap at Advance Auto Parts, I believe they are Mr. Gasket parts, possibly Edelbrock parts. Make sure you use the right size hole saw, I don't remember the size. If not it will leak![addsig]
