My 88 Cherokee had afermarket Eagle 15x8 rims. I went and bought Factory "10 hole" cherokee wheels. Took them to Firestone to make the swap. Drove the one mile home. the next day , I drove 30 miles to the hunting club, then back. I heard some popping sounds coming from what sounded like the wheels, then eventually at highway speeds, a constant "clack-clack-clack-clack".
Got it home, jacked it up, and took off the tires/wheels. on both sides, the emergency brakes cable was hanging low, and you could she shiny spots where it had been hitting the drum and rubbing it. I remounted the wheels, drove it all day with no noise.
can the way they put lug nuts on cause popping sounds if they are unbalanced or too tight?
or could the noises been all together something else. if so, it is a strange coincidence it would start as soon as they change wheels
