Code P0122 - Replace Throttle Body?

Shortly after having to replace the battery in my 2003 Jeep Liberty, it started throwing off a P0122 code intermittingly, despite seemingly running fine. After verifying the code and without even looking under the hood, the shop I normally take my vehicles to said, "Oh, that's the throttle body. We'll order a new one and install it". That'll cost about $500 with labor. Does that sound like a reasonable diagnosis? Just replace the entire throttle body? Not, CLEAN the TB and maybe replace the TPS?

First use some contact cleaner on the plugs, throttle body cleaner on the TPS and the IAS if yours has one in the Throttle body. a little dialectical grease when plugging them back in. Remove the positive battery cable and touch it to the negative to clear the codes. NOTE make sure you remove all positive connections on your battery before clearing the codes. We had someone with dual battery's and a dual post optima with things connected to both the side and top of the battery do this and...well needless to say more.
This should clear the problem, if it comes back try replacing the TPS, its a whole lot cheaper than replacing the whole throttle body.

P0122 - Set Condition: Throttle Position Sensor voltage at the PCM is lower than 0.1 of a volt for 1.3 seconds.

POSSIBLE CAUSES
TP SENSOR SWEEP
INTERMITTENT CONDITION
(K7) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN
(K7) 5-VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
TP SENSOR
(K22) TP SENSOR NO.1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(K22) TP SENSOR NO.1 SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (K4) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
TCM INTERNALLY SHORTED THROTTLE POSITION SIGNAL CIRCUIT
PCM

It can be as simple as cleaning the throttle body, or you may need to replace the TPS (throttle position sensor). Not the entire throttle body. If you're hearing the shop correctly they're trying to take advantage of you.

As stated clean the TB and verify TPS connections even work it back and forth a bunch of times with the TB. Sometimes it's just dirt. Why was the battery changed? Code or did it actually go bad?
