Well you get a bit of money saved up and something unplaned goes wild. To the parts store in the morning and wed. up on the rack. any advice or hidden items I need to repalce while in the the bell houseing. Any tricks that will make my life any easyer. I put in a clutch back in the fall and refaced the fly wheel. Wanted to do the slave then and let a friend talk me out of it. Learn from my mistake. My new tank last week now this so my mustang seats will have to wait. :-( any help here will be welcomed. Tug[addsig]

Tug, what year is your Jeep?

Since you recently did the clutch, you should be fine by just replacing the slave. You're right about doing it with clutch in the first place, Live and learn, huh?[addsig]

87 YJ 4 banger AX5 5 Speed I think! What ever came in it! And I even ask the guy that did my clutch do you think we need to go ahead and doo the slave. Naw it looks ok to me he says. Oh well here we go again. Tug thanks for your replys.[addsig]

Yes, the AX5. If you plan on keeping the Jeep, you may consider converting it to the external slave. They rarely go bad, and when they do, no need to drop the transmission to replace it.[addsig]

bounty... where would you find an external slave? or is it a custom job?[addsig]

You're '95 has the external slave already, it was the type of clutch slave used from '94. Pre-'94 used the internal slave, and would have to convert using '94 or newer parts: bellhousing, transmission front cover, etc. [addsig]

Bounty, about how much would those parts run new? I have a 93 with an AX5 and my mechanic said that pretty soon Ill have to replace the slave. If the external one is reasonably priced, then I may just do that instead of putting an internal one back in.[addsig]

The newer clutch kits are cheaper, since they don't come with the internal slave.

You can get the parts from a dealer for a lot of $$, but a lot cheaper to get them from a junkyard or somebody doing a drivetrain swap. You need the bellhousing, transmission front output cover, clutch arm, clutch release bearing, clutch master cylinder, all from a '94 or newer 2.5L AX5 Jeep.[addsig]

I guess now would be a great time to change the transmission and xcase fluids. I will probly go ahead and do this while i am in there. Is there any other upgrades or preventive maintiance items I should look into while I am in there? I will not be going to the external slave right now because of the time factor and If I start changeing out I will go to a inline 6 a bit later. thanks for the information so far. Tug :) [addsig]

Be sure to run good lube in the AX5, preferably Redline MT90. A fellow jeeper just dropped off his jeep tonight, I'll be replacing the AX5 as soon as the clutch comes in from www.carolinaclutch.com :-D [addsig]
