I have an awesome and solid 76 CJ5 that goes all over Colorado. When in steep country and crawling along, the carb (Carter 1brl) often will start leaking gas, bog down and the engine quits. I've called several Denver carb shops who have said Carters do that. I'm not sure if the carb is overflowing or is emptying out. The last time the carb bogged down I opened the hood and the gas was vaporizing off the manifold. Scary. I'd like the voice of experience: can these be rebuilt or is there a modern replacement carb that has won fans. Engine is a stock straight 6. Thanks.[addsig]
