Just got the old girl back from the paint shop and am putting her back together, lot's of parts have gone missing from the car (long story). I can't remember what is supposed to go under the hood vent to prevent water and leaves spilling onto the floor. All I have is the stainless grate for the top and a gaping hole underneath. Appreciate a memory jog!

Sounds like you are missing the vent plenum box that is suppose to hook up underneath the dash to the hood vent. Then there's a dump from that to the outside to prevent water build up and spillage into the inside of the jeep. At leat that's the way it's set up in my 79 cj7.
