Chirp sound near front wheel

Hello,

My 98 Cherokee 4x4 has developed a chrip in the right front wheel. It appears to be a rotational chirp (i.e. occurs every 1 - 1.5 seconds) and only occurs when I turn left or right. There is no chirp while driving straight or upon changes in acceleration on straight-aways. The sound has not gotten louder over the last 3 weeks but has been consistent. I recently noticed it did sound louder after a good rain. Plus, the chirp occurs even while braking through a turn. I haven't changed the front brakes since the summer of 2000, so I would think they're probably due. However, I'm not sure even if I change them it will remedy the problem. I have 110k on my Jeep and I have never replaced the front U-joints or repacked the front bearings. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would check the brakes, easy to eliminate as the cause... they will cause that sound if tey are getting low....

Hi,

When the brake pads wear down to a certain point, they will make chirping/squeaking sounds. Also check that the calipers are not sticking.
