cherokee XJ transmission?

I recently purchased a 98 XJ and I have noticed everytime I go into drive I feel a slight jolt forward and a small knock. Is this something to worry about? Is the transmission going out? I have a Pathfinder that use to do the same and there was a recall on the drive shaft. Any Help? Thanks, Linney

check your transmission fluid level, it'll do that if you're low.
