Carbon trouble

Ok I have a 84 CJ I picked up about 2 months ago can't seam to get in running right . I searched this forum and others about the motorcraft 2100-2150 carbon which is on my motor 4.2.
After fooling around with it for a month I decided to take it off. First thing I noticed was the trottle plate housing was pretty bang up . Why I don't know. Also they use 2 adapter plates to mount it . And third they cut out the metal between the ports on the intake manifold . Really did a crappy job. Is necersary to do that when you.g to the motorcraft .I am figuring a new intake and carbon now. Any thoughts out there. Also in the bottom of the intake I noticed these round pilings sticking up just below where carb sits what are these. Thanks for any info. Jim

the metal pieces sticking up are intake heaters. you need those if your wiring is still set up fairly original as those keep your fuel from condensing and dropping to the bottom of the intake on cold mornings by heating the intake and air until the collant is warm enough to do it.

That 2150 looks a little beat up. Is it a 1.08 or a 1.21 venturis? I can remanufacture it for you if you like. OR I can replace it all together. Don't sweat the intake mod. Not necessary but not a problem.
