Can I rotate T-Case?

I have a 95 YJ. 2.5 manual

The front output from transfer case is to the driver's side. Since the 6 transmission to transfer case bolts are equi-distance, is it possible to rotate the transfer case 180 degrees so the front output is on the passenger's side?

I am doing this to accommodate passenger side differential.

Probably have to drill new drain plug and vent holes and relocate the exhaust.

Will I screw up the T-case lubrication system since it will be operating upside down for the rest of its life?[addsig]

linkages and shifting will also cause a problem, your Tcase will be upside down... doesn't sound like the best idea to me... though, i'm not to say that it can't be done.. personally.. i would take the axle somewhere and get the tube lengths reversed to fit the right way[addsig]

I don't know what the condition of your transfer case is in, But if funds allow, try to find a vehicle that has the front output on the other side of the tranfer case.

I believe any 73-87 chevy had the output shaft on the passengers side, and can be found in wrecking yards all over the place pretty cheap. Possibly other vehicles.

Might want to check in to seeing what is adaptable to you application. Also the transmission tunnel will have to be modified but that is a siple process of "sawzall meets metal"

And gotta change that front end, swap the axle tubes!

Just an Idea, definatly loo into it, sounds cool

The NP231J transfer case in your Jeep has a pump driven by the mainshaft, I'd be concerned that it's pickup would be dry should you run the TC upside down. Anybody whose done a SYE should know how the pump is designed and if it will work, I know it's there but have never seen it first hand.

I think it'd be easier to find a front axle with a driver's side diff like a D44 from an SJ. Or use a D300 transfer case which is much stronger and can be run twinstick for more wheelin options.[addsig]
