Broken hood cable/ hood latched shut

I'm locked out and can't get into the engine compartment of my 87 Cherokee.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Can I get it open without drilling holes?

nope... dynamite...

the hood latch is actually a cable that is pulled from that lever... it runs up the firewall and across the hood to the top... obviously it broke somewhere inbetween... hmm... coathanger and some finesse would be my best bet...[addsig]
