Braggin' Rights!

After reading TC's post on his son's wrestling prowess, it got me thinking ... there are a lot of proud dads and moms, brothers and sisters out there. There are a lot of exceptional people doing some amazing things. Maybe we should start a thread to celebrate those accomplishments and keep them in one spot.

It could be athletics, scholastic, career, a service project, rehab from an injury (hope all is still going well, dropseys!), whatever. Just one of those threads we can go to when we want to puff up a little ... or need a little lift and see everything isn't quite as gloomy as it may seem at times.

I'll post first and see if we can get any traction.

Here is a link to a slideshow first played at my son's Eagle Court of Honor (10/7/06). The pics span from when he was 7-1/2 until just before 18. The slideshow runs for ~4 minutes.

I REALLY look forward to seeing what the rest of this group has to share! Should be fun.

My daughter "Crackers" learned how to sit up and beg this year! Quite an accomplishment since she's already 6.

(I just wanted to participate):p

Eagle Scout

Wow, this is quite an accomplishment! A very good friend of mine made Eagle Scout and he sacrificed so much for it. You must be quite proud of the young man. Kudos to you for raising and encouraging him!

TWDJ, kudos to you for being so involved with scouting. Our local scout and cub scout troops are a farce. None of the parents want anything to do with it but for one or two. Two years ago, my nephew joined Cub Scouts, but didn't have anyone to lead the group. My brother stepped up to the plate, despite his extremely busy schedule, and led the group. He had no experience with scouting, but poured himself into it, studied all he could about it, and made the extra effort to allow those kids a chance to experience something he never got to. Falling attendance and lack of support from parents and community alike took it's toll, and now there is no more scout pack for my nephew. Last year, I helped him build a pinewood derby car. I had no idea what I was doing, but he wanted me to help him because I'm the only woodworker in the family that's close. I fashioned it after a Nascar vehicle and added quarters to it in two holes drilled in the bottom to bring it up to the maximum weight. I blew away all of the other cars in the competition. He won a spot in the state competition, but didn't go...why? Because he said he'd rather go camping with the family out on the farm that weekend instead! He was only 7 years old at the time. He said he knew how much it meant to his dad to be at the farm, where our dad loved to go before he died! That just blew me away!!

Sorry for rambling, but I do tend to brag about him a lot. He's quite a sharp kid, really. He speaks fluent English at the 10th grade level, as well as fluent Vietnamese...not sure what grade level, but it's as good or better than his mom who was raised in Vietnam till she was 28 years old! I could go on and on about him, but I'll let someone else jump in here.

Great idea for a thread!;)

I don't have any kids or even my own dog but i'm gonna take a second to brag on my mom. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and instead of letting it get her down she became an avid marathon runner. Even with chemo every other week she found the strength to go run almost every day and some of my best childhood memories are of riding our bikes alongside her as she ran on the local nature trail. She ran the Music City Marathon in something like 4.5 hours and finished before plenty of perfectly healthy people and tons of perfectly healthy people didn't even finish. She's not a marathon runner anymore and she's been cancer free for almost 7 years now but i still call bragging rights on that one.
