For christmas i got some KC lights and windshield brackets. I will need Torx screwdrivers and was just wondering where the best place to get torx screwdrivers would be. Also if anyone has a suggested route for my lights mounted on the windshield to the battery it would be very helpful.

Thanks

P.S. If you cannot tell im a newbie.

You should be able to find a "torx key" which is a small box about the size of a harmonica that has 7 different size torx drivers. If your jeep is old and/or rusty, you might want to invest in a set of torx sockets (for your ratchet wrench). These can take a bit more power. Be sure to get a set that includes a T50 and T55. You should be able to get these at a PepBoys or AutoZone or whatever your local auto parts store is.

you definitely need atleast a torx ratchet set to get some leverage. i did mine over the summer and used air tools, was much easier. Good Luck!

Get a good set of torx sockets for a 3/8" drive ratchet handle. The cheap, made in China ones are more prone to rounding off. You may want to get a Craftsman set. Push in really hard on the head of the ratchet handle when you twist. That will keep it from trying to slip.

Torx bits and drivers are definately tools you want to buy from a place that will give you a free replacement warranty. They break and round off all the time. Buying a cheaper set will cost more money in the long run if you plan to work on Jeeps much.
Like redrooster said, push in as you turn.

You might as well just go ahead and invest in a quality set of easy-outs and some cheap taps for chasing threads while you are buying those torx.

Make sure you use the right size. Very easy to strip. Chip paint out of screw heads first. After you take the paint out the next size fits. Use penetrating oil on the bolts a couple of times before.

I have gotten some bad reviews on putting off road lights on the windshield. should I not mount them there. I am mainly worried about future damage caused by strain on the windshield.

Just having the lights mounted on your windshield frame isn't going to hurt anything. The main concern is making sure you don't rip them off on a tree or other obstacle. I was out wheeling an old hunting club behind my parents house a few years ago and hit a pole that was hanging out over the path, I hit my light bar on it. My lightbar was secured with TOO strong of brackets......the windshield came back a couple of inches, the glass broke, my soft door bent and under pressure it flew off its hinges(while my arm was hanging on it) and landed about 15 feet from the Jeep.

I was Also wondering if when installing the brackets I needed to brace to windshield in case it fell. Thanks.

The windshield isn't going anywhere, the bracket actually goes over the existing hinge. I have the same set up and I'm happy with it.I fet the wires inside, to the switch, through the firewall, and to the battery. If you need a more specific idea email me and I can send you pics.
