Hello guys and gals.... GR93 here. I was doing a routine check on my 4x4 (high, haven't done the low part yet) while I was driving, and after about 3 seconds engaging the 4x4 system it made a loud BANG sound from the front. I might have been going too fast for the system to engage, but I wanted to know what you guys thought. Was told once to check up on the 4x4 system (ol' sayin, "if there's dust on the little shifter you're gonna have problems" was ringin' in my head.) Thanks everyone

GR, I'm guessing you have a 93. The sound coming from the front axle could be the shift fork moving your cupling on the axle shafts. Happens every now and then. Also, where your rear wheels spinning when you did your test? If so, that'll do it too. Hope this helps. Let me know if it happens again.

You can shift into 4WD High while underway, just make sure your rear tires aren't spinning, if they are it will put a lot of stress on the front axles since they will suddenly be forced to spin faster. This is very hard on all the parts of the drivetrain. As long as it hasn't done it since, I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe just take out the shift fork and make sure its ok-[addsig]
