Hey all, just got my engine & transmission today WAHOO! and just had a question regarding the AX-5. the output side is open???? I can see into the case?!?! specifically there is a 3" hole with a seal surrounding it with the output shaft centered in the hole, but there is about a 3/4" gap all around. oh yeah and is it normal on the input side for the shaft to have about 1/8 inch of play? I would assume that the output "hole" is normal as it doesn't look like there is anything missing, but the play on the input worries me. just never expected to see either one.

The input play is normal and the slack will disappear when you mount it. The output seal gap will be filled when you mount the transfer case adapter. I believe the seal you mentioned works on the outside diameter of the adapter. Anyone feel free to correct me on that one.

oh.. ok, thanks. I thought I was losing it, I finally get this highly anticipated replacement (an 11k mile 2001 trans), and the thing has a hole in it!!! Thanks RR!

yeah, a 1/8" play is nothing bad... quite normal... but... the transmission i took out of the jeep when i replaced mine... we're talkin like 1.5 inches... not cool
