aw 4 goes into 'safe mode' while wheelin?

what the hell? i'm chewin in the snow.........crap up to the doors.......all of a sudden i'm stuck in 2nd gear and the transmission wont shift! fellow jeepers don't fail me now! help..........is this a common problem? :x

What year XJ? On the early models (pre 91) there is a fuse under the glove box, thats worth a look, when she won´t shift.

Wet electrical connections to the transmission. Dry them out and seal them up.
