Í'm interested in a hi incline carb like the Holley Truck Avenger to replace the stock Motorcraft for my 77 304 CJ-7.

Are there any others I should consider instead?

Or should I just opt for the fuel injection?

What manifold would be a good choice?

I run sand dunes that get pretty steep.

I have the same delima. Right now I have the Edelbrock Performer Intake with the Edelbrock #1405 600 cfm Performer carb on my '79 304. Thinking of going with the Edelbrock Performer RPM Pro-Flo EFI system which comes with everything I need including a new distributor, fuel pump, wiring, and computer. I need a new distributor anyway...don't know though it isn't cheap at $2700!

ndnatty,

edelbrock makes an offroad kit for your carb. its part #1465. it comes with new needles and seats. i have the 1406 and im getting it pretty soon.

What improvements does this kit make to the original carb?

I'm wanting better performance for steep hills & angles.

Nothing good comes cheap
The fuel systems I'm looking for my 304;
Howell Injection conv. is $1260 & $70 more for the K&N filter assembly.
Holley Pro-Jection EFI Conv. $800
The Avenger 670cfm is $410 & Edelbrock manifold $186

fuel injection.. why would anyone even consider a carb??? stalling on a hill isnt fun in my book...

I've read some great reviews on the Avenger carb. on it's ability to function properly at extreme angles.
One person reported his Jeep's engine continued to run smoothly even after it rolled on it's side!

He will set you up with a kit that is made from readily avavilable GM components. The Pro-Jection works, but it is a closed loop system that doesn't account for a lot of extras that a GM system does. The Projection replacement parts are only available from Holley. It's about the same price as a Pro-jection kit. Read the site for more info on how the GM system works in relation to others.

Thanks Redrooster for the great link. I'll be busy reading this very helpfull information. Sorry if this was a question commonly asked. I'm simply another newby on the board trying to get educated.
