Anyone have problems with breaking off rear shock mounts?

I was driving down the street yesterday and noticed that it seemed to be a little more bouncy than normal. Looked under the jeep and found the rear drivers side shock mount to be broken right off the axle. I haven't been off road for at least 2 weeks and it was fine up until yesterday. I know of 3 other people with YJ's who have all had this same problem. Just wondering if this is a common problem and if there's any other people here who have experienced this...mabye there's a reacall. Also, just wondering if stronger mounts are available?[addsig]

Mine broke off as well... I actually like the way it rides more without the shocks... but i still want to replace the mounts... i think i am going to check into the chevy S-10/Blazer Ubolt plate... it has the mount integrated into it... and it looks like it may work, at least with minor modification[addsig]

sounds like your shock mounts snapped off because of AXLE WRAP... when the leaf spring bends like an "s" when under load... check into that...[addsig]

i have snapped 2 on my cj before because my spring perches were rotten and they rounded out instead of being flat=spring wrap.i cut off the old ones welded new ones on no more problem.

Those things are made of pretty thin metal. Look at it as a good time for a mod, you can make something stronger and move those lower shock mounts up higher, out of harms way. Take some square tubing and cut into the side on one end so it's rounded to fit up to the bottom of the axle tube. Cut one side out of the other end and drill it for the shock to mount to. Weld it on so it's parallel with the ground or the leading edge is slightly up from parallel.[addsig]
