Anybody???

Anybody know what the little yellow wire that has a connector right behind the battery, and appears to go down to the alternator does or is????? I disconnected mine because it seemed to be shorting out and now everthing works fine except my battery gauge is showing lower than it should, but the battery seems fine. Anybody?????
