Any Long travel shock suggestions?

I was going to use my stock shocks with my SOA but now I have different shock mounts than I originally planned so I was thinking of just getting some new shocks.

Between the SOA and the AAL I am guessing I will end up with about 6.5 inches of lift, is there a good affordable shock that anyone suggests? I would like to get some Ranchos, but I was just over at Napa and they said they didn't make them for that tall of a lift. Who knows if he is right... I would have no problem getting a different company as long as they are worth getting. Thanks for any help.

I realized after the last post that I can mount the standard "U" shock mounts anywhere on the axle. I went out and looked at the stock "drop down" mounts ans saw that the bottom of the shock itself measures about 5 inches from the top of the axle. I knew they dropped down but I didn't think that much! Plus I never took the time to look.

Anyway if I mount the U shock mount on top of the axle tube I should be close to 6 inches I think. So I can just go buy standard length shocks right?

Another question if anyone cares, when putting the shocks in (whether long or short), how do I know how much the shock should be "extended" when the jeep is at rest on flat ground? The only reason I'm concerned about this is because I am relocating the shock mounts as I mentioned earlier, I don't want to put the shocks in and have them compressed all the way, know what I mean? I was thinking of measuring the shock I have on there now while its at rest and welding the new shock mount to allow that same measurement... of course I would have to go with the same length shock as stock then.

Thoughts?

i really feel bad cause i can't answer your ???'s but i will need you help when it's time for me to do my SOA, where are you located maybe i can shoot down and give you a hand. not much for knowledge but always willing to help.

Dude, you would do that? That would be awesome. I live in Ocean Grove, NJ... I'll be doing the SOA in Neptune though where I work. I have access to pretty much any tool I want there. I'll be starting the lift on the 7th of Nov... as for the shock mount thing I think I got it figured out. I will just mount the U mount on top of the axle tube like I said, and if its still too short I will fab up a spacer. It will probably only need another inch if any.
