AMC 1986 2.5 liter throttle body fuel injection

I have a 1986 AMC Comanche with the 2.5 liter, 4 cylinder engine. This is a replacement motor with 40,000 miles on it. When below 40 degrees, it will start and then stop. If I keep repeating this it will run rough until the engine gets a a little warm; then it runs fine.

If I place a heater cable for a few hours around the Throttle body unit and a black box component - 2" x 3" x 2" - the engine will start quicker but still stall.

In the warmer weather, it starts and runs fine.

Any Suggestions ?

Thank You

I would first clean the throttle body and egr valve and any components around the throttle body with some carb cleaner and clean out any carbon build up in the areas and see if that helps
