I have a '92 Cherokee Sport with the 4.0 HO, and its geting in ruff shape. I have the cahnce to either buy a '94 Sport with the HO or a Grand Cherokee with jus tthe 4.0. I want to swap engines from the '94 Sport because it has alot less kilometers on it. I also want to swap the axles, transmission and transfer case. Wich of the two would be better to take the axles from? They both have ABS, and they are both standard. Are there any differance between the '92 and '94 that wont allow me to swap out the parts?
I know this is alot more work than just driving the newer one. But my floors are in a little better shape and alos, I dont want to change insurance and all that stuff. Plus, I have afew tickets that may make my insurance go up... so I rather just leave it as it is.

Thanks for any help.

The Grand is basically the same engine as the '94, they are both HO even thought the Grand doesn't advertise it.

A lot of Grand's come with a full-time transfer case that can be problematic, best to avoid them. The Grand will also have a low-pinion front axle, weaker and less driveshaft ground clearance than the XJ's high-pinion front axle.

The Grand may also have true CV joints in the driveshafts and/or front axleshafts, weaker and less reliable than the ujoints found in the XJ.

Thanks for the reply, that really helps out. Just out of curiostiy, how come you reffered to the grand as a grand, but the sport as a XJ? Arent they both XJ's?
So Im better off sticking with the parttime transfer case then? How can I tell if the '94 Sport has ujoints and a high pinion axle?
Also, between '92 and '94, all the wireing harnesses, thortle linakes and everything are the same?
Again, thanks for your help. Hopefuly soon I'll know enogh about jeeps that I wont have to keep pestering with questions.

Cherokee = XJ, Grand Cherokee = ZJ '93-98, WJ '99+, WK later on.Stick with all XJ if you can, and '92 + '94 will be the same.
