Add-a-leaf kits

Is a 2-2.5" add-a-leaf kit a workable modest lift for a 90 YJ? No serious off-roading planned. Mostly for extra clearance on 31" tires and appearance. Any adverse effects like stiffness, stress on other components? Sounds like ultimate inexpensive lift to me. [addsig]

I don't perosnally have an add a leaf kit, but from what I've heard is that they make the suspension much stiffer. The people that I've asked have recomended not to do it. I've got and 89 YJ and I'm running 31's with just longer shakles. They seem to work pretty well, but I got them because they were the cheapest way to go. Hope this helps ya Evan.

The full length AAL does not stiffen your ride by that much. It's the short AAL that makes a Jeep ride really stiff.

I'd choose AAL over longer shackles.

I use a combination of AAL, 1" Body lift, and TJ flares to clear 31" swampers. My AAL is about 1.5" of lift, made from stock YJ springs, using the top two leaves from two front packs.[addsig]

When I bought my CJ it had (and unfortunately still has) 2" aals ... and I can tell you that the ride is stiff. The other thing is that the the springs seem to flatten out after a while too. I'm starting to notice that the front of my jeep seems to be a little closer to the ground than the back of it.

i have a '90XJ, and the rear spings are basically flat. they're so tired, the tire is basically IN the wheelwell. for this reason, when i bought my lift, i got complete rear spring packs. just my .02[addsig]
