Yesterday after work I jumped in the jeep to head home. Ran fine as always to the first stop sign. Pulled out from stop and motor instantly started loosing power. Started fluttering. Runs very poor, won't idle and a very small amour of white/grey smoke out of tail pipe. Had to tow her home. Almost as though its starving for fuel. Was going to replace fuel filter to find a 97 2.3 doesn't have a fuel filter. I just did a full tune up 200 miles ago. has 105,xxx on od. has always run flawlessly. No lites have come on to indicate a problem. Any suggestions?

'97 is the 2.5L engine. Put a scanner on it and see if there are any pending or hard codes.

The '97 does have a filter but I believe it's just the sock filter in the tank. Let us know what you find.

Ok. I have a reader being brought to me this afternoon so ill try that. It does kinda act like its starving for fuel but I can't be too sure as of yet. I can usually nail a problem in minutes but this ones got me stumped! Thanks.

I had a 97 TJ and it had the 2.5 in it I thought they only offered the 2.5 or the 4.0 in the TJ could be wrong though.

Yeah typo. 2.5 liter. Ended up having a broken valve spring. Easy $5 fix.
