92 yj showing check engine code 41

Hello, I am new to the forum and would appreciate some advice. My jeep has been sputtering especially when not warmed up and is showing error code 41, the book says it means alternator field but I don't know what that means. I have recently replaced the fuel filter and pump, all my fuel lines have been checked, yesterday i changed the cap and rotor. Any advice would help, thank you.

Code 41-Charging system circuit-output driver stage for generator field does not respond properly to the voltage regulator control signal.

Could be a bad alternator or a bad ground.
