first time user on this forum. my daughter has a 92 yj and has got bitten by the off road bug. she has a set of 31s on her yj now but after a trip out to see me in vegas and a bit of climbing in my bronco(running on 40s) she wants more. I know her axles wont take more so what is the best swap i can do for her so she can run 35s and take it of road in socal. she has some work on the motor, header and exhaust and the cold air kit on her strait 6. she said she is not up for the abuse that i put my thru so thats a plus.

Welcome to the Z. Some people are content with the d30 front axle with up to 33" and sometimes 35" tires, depending on driver finesse and wheeling locale. If that's the case for you, the Ford 8.8 rear axle from a '95+ Ford Exploder is a good candidate. It has disc brakes, 5x4.5" lug pattern, gear ratios common to jeep, limited slip available, and is close to the same width as the Wrangler axles.

If you would like to upgrade front and rear, consider an '80s or '90s Wagoneer front d44 and a mid '90s Isuzu Rodeo d44 rear axle. This combo gives 4wheel disc brakes, 6-lug wheels at each corner, and a much better front axle over the d30. It's what I run in my YJ and I have another set that will soon be in my MJ.
