9 inch questions

I found this site where a guy swapped in a ford 9 inch rearend and he said it bolted right up with springs over axle. I didn't know this thing was the right width for a YJ. If it really is I have a friend who would practically give me one but I would need to get new gears. What is the bolt pattern on these beasts?? Will this work or is it a lost cause?http://www.4x4spot.com/ford_9_in_yj_swap.htm

I find it hard to believe that the spring perches are at the correct width, and even harder to believe they are at the correct angle for the proper pinion angle.

A Ford 9" seems to me to be a lot longer from the axle center line to the pinion yoke than a D35, so I can't see how a stock driveshaft could just 'bolt right up'. I'd guess the Ford came with larger u-joints as well, but who knows.

I'm skeptical, you'd have to comfirm all these things before committing yourself to the work or purchase price.

one of the local off roader's in my area told me that the 9 inch spring perches match right up with his xj. however, he did have to adjust the pinion angle with some shims i think.....

there MAY be SOME vehicle out there that came with a 9" that will bolt right up... but to this day, i've not found one

keep in mind.. a ford 9" rear describes the differential housing only... the axle tubes can vary in length depending on application.... not all fords are the same width either, so they make the rear in different sizes....
