87 YJ V-8 conversion question

I am putting togther the pieces to convert my 87 yj over to a v-8 I just happend across a wrecked Grand Cherokee 1995 with a 5.2 low mileage engine.
It is a 8-318 5.2L Y vin engine Can anyone tell me if this will bolt in the 87 YJ and if it will work with tha factory transmission. What other mods may be needed, will it be any easier than the chevy 350 conversion???

awww man u lucky iv been lookin for a jeep V8 to put into my TJ not sure what mods that u need but i know that u need to order an engine bracket for the V8

You will need to fab up spme motor mounts, or call Advanced adapters and see what they have! If you want to use a factory 5 spd I would toss that peurgot (however it is spelled) POS transmission and get yourself a AX15 out of a 91 or after with a 4.0! This will handle the increase in power a bit better. there will also be a considerable amount of computer wiring that wil need to be done, consult painless wiring or some other type of wiring specialty shop! I have seen this conversion done, and it always looks real nice!

I'm thinking the 5.2L has a Chrysler bellhousing pattern that does not match the AMC pattern of the 4.2L and 4.0L, nor the GM pattern of the 2.5L

Find a transmission made for the 5.2L, you'll save $$ on an adapter and you know it will handle the v8 power. Go ahead and get the original transfer case too.

for the wireing your goling to have to do it your self, i allready tried calling painless wiring up and they told me that they do not make a harness for any kind fo sways like that but they do make a factory replacement harness but if you have both harness from your engine and the doner you can pertty much cut the old connectors off your original harness and splice them into your V8 harness

well hit the jackpot today found a wrecked IROC that had a re-man jasper 5.7 with TPI 25,000 miles on engine car is wrecked but engine and wireharness are all there, also have a line on a 700R4 out of a late 90's GMC 4X4. At least I have the engin and transmission Now debateing keeping the TPI set up. Could be really sweet
