I will be picking up a non running 1985 cherokee 4cyl 4wd 4speed monday for 350.00... The distributor broke a couple of teeth after an oil pump failure..

Do you think i need to order the master kit that includes oil pump and new camshaft or do I just need a new oil pump and distributor?

Cheapest master kit I found was 408.00 on ebay is this about the standard price?

Also the jeep has a striaght body and great interior but I did notice the shifter will actually lift up... what causes this? is it expensive to fix? I am planning on getting this running for a daily driver and light trail rig for the weekends.

What all wheels from other jeeps will fit the 85?

Thats about all I have for now, this will be my first jeep so im rather excited!

Thanks,
-Nathan

My first guess would be just a distributor and oil pump (much cheaper) BUT, you probably ought to look at what kind of metal scrapes you're pulling out of the oil pan and you may be able to determine further damage from there. Most of the time the distributors have a cast steel or bronze gear that saves the cam from too much damage. I would say look into it before you buy anything. Later

Yeah like bobcat said i'd definitely check it out before buying anything man, $400 is alot of money to drop when you're not 100% sure, plus a master rebuild is alot of trouble if you just need an oil pump and a distributer lol
and for the wheels, probably quite a few year model xj's will fit it, and probably the comanche's too, but i'm still new to Jeep's so not quite sure about the specs on bolt patterns. Anyway, let us know how it turns out man.
