Any thoughts on this engine in a 2000 Tj driving to the trails? $700 from novak without transmission (manual) or transfer case (I was thinking dana 300). What do you think? How long would it take? Would it be worth it (from 4.0 with 37's)

I know you all are gonna say that a 4.0 can handle 37's but if it couldn't what would you say? And powers good right? Get up hills and through the mud.

Thanks,
Tom

P.S. sorry if some stuff in here doesn't make sense im a newb.

It's all about the gearing, the 4.0L is a great motor and can turn 37"s if coupled with the correct axle gears.

I agree...I'm running 39.5" tires with 5.38 gears and the stock 4.0 and I have plenty of power for wheeling and it still runs down the road at highway speeds. Don't get me wrong though...the gm 5.3 litre motor is great and a fairly easy install but chances are you don't truly need it. Just my 2 cents.
