4X4 FLAT TOWING W/NEW PROCESS CASE. "HELP"

Looking for technical info: My project is to build a "Towed 4X4" to flat tow behind my motor home. The vehicle will be a 1981 AMC EAGLE. NOW FORGET THAT I TOLD YOU THAT!!! All my needs evolve around selecting the right "NEW PROCESS 2 SPEED TRANSFER CASE" that will allow the vehicle to be "flat towed" w/driveshafts in. I have both systems for a "front axle disconnect and full time (non disconnect)". I had hoped to use a NP 229 for full time dry pavement use, but don't believe this possible. I have all the technical input necessary to change from single speed to a two speed T.C. I must utilize a New Process Case with 23 spline to simplify the installation on the EAGLE. Hope someone out there knows how to select and/or modify a N.P. unit that will tow in "absolute neutral" with driveshafts left installed. This would negate any and all transmission concerns, and heat or friction wear to the transfer case. THANKS TO ALL!

I looked in the owners manual fro my 87 XJ, it said the XJ can be flat towed with both the manual and auto trans. With the transfer in neutral and the axle disengauged for the Command trac transfer and the shift in gear with the manual and in park with the auto trans. I´ve never seen a Selec Trak tranfer, with an axle disconnect.
Having said that, I don´t really know wether I have the 207 or the 231 in the 87 XJ Command trac. And there are many models of the Selec Trak and making assumptions can be dangerous.
Maybe someone with a later model XJ with the 231 transfer or know models of the Selec trac can help us out. By reading there owners manual and posting the info.
There are four different models of the 231 that I know of 21 spline short shaft, 23 spline short shaft, 23 spline long shaft and 21 spline long shaft. And also the bolt patterns of many are the same, but have a differnt rotational bolt pattern. A stick shift transfer will be slightly rotated when bolted to an automatic.

I guess I didn´t help much with a diffinative answer, but might have helped with a few questions that need to be answered.

www.advanceadapters.com has some tables that might be helpful, in finding a match, for your transmission.[addsig]

convert over to locking hubs on all four
then when you want to tow, you can unlock all the hubs and be absolutely sure tha both axles are completely disengaged
warn makes the kit. theres others too. good luck.[addsig]

You can flat-tow with both the NP231 and NP241 part-time trasnfer cases. As stated above, simply put the transfer case in neutral, and manual transmission in gear or auto transmission in park.

Remember, key in and turned one notch to unlock the steering wheel. I'll be flat towing the YJ to a sweet offroad park this Friday, can't hardly wait :-D [addsig]
