I have a 90 4.0 5 speed cherokee my brother recently came upon a 92 grand cherokee. I plan to swap the non H.O. for the 92's H.O. 4.0 I know you have to swap the wiring harness but will it's wiring harness work because it has an automatic. does anybody know if in 92 the auto's were electronic or not? One more thing the grand has an NP242 behind it, is this t-case heavier duty than the 231 or just the automatic version. and if it's heavier duty will it bolt up to a 5 speed?

Hi,

There is a likely chance that many of the sensors will be the same, but the wiring harness pinouts might be different, as is the ECU. In general, it would be best to use the complete harnesses, ECU, and sensors for the H.O. engine with the H.O. engine in the Jeep.

The NP242 is by definition stornger, hence the middle number of the model being a 4 instead of a 3. However, there are pros and cons for each T-case, and I believe you'd need an adapter for the transmission, depending on what model year.
