4.0 head

I have a 88 4.2 with three burnt valves. After pricing out everything I am looking at upgrading to a 4.0 head. I know there are modifications to make (water jacket and brakets) but what I haven't been able to determine is will any 4.0 head fit or only specific casting #'s or years. i currently have my eye on one that is suppose to be off a 91.

Any advise would be great.

Any 4.0 head will fit, however look for a 91 or newer H.O. head (improved air flow). You'll need new head bolts (try Headbolts.com), a intake and exhaust manifold. The stock manifolds will work fine from the donor, but the intake will be EFI. Other than blocking two water passenges (if I remember correctlly?), the only other problem will be the P/S pump (if so equipped) and thats not a huge deal.
