3/4 Eliptical Rear

Well, I have the parts to do a 3/4 Eliptical rear, and from what I have seen its not to hard. Is there anything I should be prepared for, problems, etc? Or do you folks not recommend doing this mod? Everyone I have talked to that has done it says they love it, so with your blessings I am gonna start into it.

HEY WHATS AN ELIPITICAL REAR? IV HEARD SOME THINGS ABOUT IT BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS...

just type in 3/4 eliptical rear on your search engine. it will show u.
they give great flex in the rear with a little more than 1" of lift. But does anyone with experience have any advice for me? Just want to make sure the write ups I have found havent left anything out

ohhhh i idnt know that thats what they called an elipitical rear, i allways knew that as adding an other leaf above the spring against the axle. hahahaha i never knew that there was a name for that i saw some of my buddys do that in Texas when i was down there for school heheheh well that does me no good i got a TJ with coils all the way around but if any needs cj springs i got a full set, good luck to everyone thats doing that it can fles like u wouldnt believe.... its awsome

oh yea now that im thinkin about it they had a jeep done like that and some lift on it and that bad boy flexed like it was no joke....

What about going with tere flex revolver shackle's. You just bolt them on and they give you a ton of flex.

well i never seen them in action but i seent he springs in actiona nd the flex like krazy and they seem to keep the jeep more level while one wheel is stuffed in the fender and the other is in a hole

Yeah, I have heard bad things about the Revolvers, i am more of a person that likes to steer away from the norm, after all, jeeps are built not bought. The 3/4 is alot cheaper than the revolvers, which is a big factor to me.

the 3/4 eliptical is also much much bouncier as well... i have never seen it by eye, nor have ridden in a vehicle equipped as such... but from the sounds of it all... i say it is a no go... i would be more easily talked into SOA with revolvers...

and... the 3/4 eliptical is good for up to about 4" of lift.. depending on the positioning and shape of the springs

GREAT NEWS!!! AWESOME DAY!!!

Yeah, but an SOA is a lot of work and money. Eventually I will head down that road, but I am looking to stay with a mild lift and my stock danas to run 33s.... And I know if I went SOA i would just have to break out the visa and get axles and 35s and gears etc.... I just cant hold back in certain situations. But anyways, now I am torn, I too have never ridden in a vehicle equipped with a 3/4 rear, I know its bouncy. I did see a Jeep equipped with a 3/4 rear on a local trail ride and it flexed amazingly. I didnt get to talk to him though... Any other opinions?

I will do that. I think I am gonna give it a run, and since its bolt on I cant take it off if it performs poorly. I will let u guys know in the future how it goes with a write up and pics

Simply clamp the elip.spring to the frame when your "on road" and it's back to stock. You could add a small shock to aid the bounce if you ride a lot of fast trails with un bolted too.

Most of your limitation comes from the shocks (usually the only limiter) So make sure they are going to extend enough to give you a real advantage. Also brake lines and cables too.

Since you mentioned revolvers, don't forget the new ZigZags by Nth*Mobility :D

Another issue with ellip spring set up is the ride is awfully bouncy in the rear, some adjustable shocks should be able to remedy some of the bounce.

Bounty, I have heard of the Nth set up, never saw it, awesome

Yeah, the zigzags look neat, but a 3/4 is so cheap, and really flexes quite a bit. but it is bouncy. i am going to give it a shot, with longer shocks in the rear and see what happens, look for pics in the near future, school permitting. If i go with a longer shock in the rear, what should i go with? i have rancho 5000s right now, for a 2.5 inch lift. can i simply bolt on a longer rs9000?

Axle width?

5000s and 9000s do not differentiate in length but rather in adjustability. The 9000's are a bit on the expensive side but are adjustable from inside you vehicle. the 5000's are not. The best way to do it is, when you finish the 3/4, measure from the two shock perches (top and bottom) this will give you your length at rest. call rancho,(or any auto shock supplier) tell them that number and they will advise on what part numbers you need.
