3.07 gears w/auto trans

New to the board and could use some input. I have a 97 TJ 4.0 with a wimpy 35 rear and 3.07 gears. It's an automatic and has the original wimpy 225/75r15's on it. Can I put 31X10.5 on 16X8 inch rims and not be underpowered? Thanks in advance.

welcome to the board, with a 4.0L TJ I dont think you will have any trouble with 31's...hopefully someone on here can verify that for ya

ya mna you'll be ok w/ the 3.07's i was runnin 35's with 3.07s for a while :roll:

Man, I thought only the 5speeds had the sucky 3.07 gears. You should be okay at 31" tires, the auto multiplies torque and will compensate a little for the larger tires. Look for used 3.73 gears from those jeepers who upgrade to lower gears.

you will be just fine. i would say to stick with 15 inch rims though

I'm running 32's with a 4.0L and 3.07 gears. Little slow on the uphills, but fine for everyday driving.
