2007 Wrangler 2 door towing question

I have a question, I own a 2007 wrangler 2 door w the standard 3.8L engine n manual shift. It is rated to pull 2000 lbs. I want to buy a 2500 lb pop up trailer, has anyone towed a small pop up trailer w their 2007 or newer Wrangler? Will this hurt it in the long run? The 4x4 place I deal with says I should be fine but I want to see if anyone has experience? Thanks!

The reason for the tow rating is the light weight of the Jeep.The Jeep will pull it fine,stopping can be a different story.Also if you get any type of sway there is a chance it will tip the Jeep over.Personally I would not go over the MFG rating for safety reason.If you do though there are items that will help,like anti sway bars for the camper and electric brakes on the camper.

Thank you so much for replying. I think I will take my chances w the bigger pop up trailer as it has an indoor toilet n other accessories. Bit I will invest in a sway bar and brakes for safety purposes. Again, thanks for the info!
