I found this on another website and thought I would post it. Commence the DC adulations or cursings.

Summary of changes:

1) The Sahara model is discontinued.
2) The 6-Speed German made NSG370 transmission from the Mercedes M-class replaces the 5-speed NV3550 and NV1500 transmissions in all models, the 4-speed automatic is unchanged. NSG370 specs are as follows.

6 forward 1 reverse
Max torque input 272 ft/lb
1- 5.014:1
2- 2.831:1
3- 1.789:1
4- 1.256:1
5- 1.000:1
6- 0.828:1
Reverse 4.569:1

Weight 40.5 kg

3) The SE gets the 3.73 axle gears in place of the 4.11's or 4.56's it has today.
4) There now appears to be a second soft top on the Unlimited, called an "Easy-Folding Soft Top", which probably refers to the Bestop "Sunrider" feature, now an option. (Dual tops still not an option on the Unlimited.)

No Sahara? Man, They always discontinue a model after I buy it. I had an 81 camaro and then in 82 they changed body style. I had an 83 280zx then they went to the 300z in 84. I had a 96 Thunderbird and they then discontinued it all together. And don't get me started on the Oldsmobile.

I knew jeep was gonna do some wacky stuff for the new jeeps. Next year they are going to discontinue the X, or something else, until there are no more TJ's left. 3.73 gears for the SE! Not that I will ever buy one but that sucks, they are making all the jeeps more car like. Pretty soon we will lose the 4.0....

I guess the gear ratio changes are related to going with a 6 speed transmission, but 3.07's?

I can see why they are discontinuing the Sahara. The Rubicon was about the same money and it was probably killing the Sahara sales.

I also see they are no longer offering yellow and have introduced an Orange and an additional green.

I'd like to see what the orange looks like. I really liked the amber fire color they had for a year or two (I think Utah has that color)

News 11 has also learned the famous Wrangler will actually be getting a makeover soon. The redesigned model will be ready to go in May of 2006. And a new- look Jeep Liberty will roll off the line in 2007.

I think I will like the new 6 speed.....I did some math and in a Rubicon I came up with a crawl speed:

With a 5.014 1st and a 4.11 rear end and a 4.0 transfer case that yeilded a crawl ratio of 82.43.

At 700rpm or 42,000 revs per hour that would yeild 509.52 wheel revolutions per hour.

With a tire size of 245/75/R16 (standard tire size on a Rubicon) that would equal a tire diameter of 30.47 inches and a circumference of 95.72 inches or .0015107 miles.

Multiply the 509.52 wheel revolutions times the .0015017 miles per revolution and you get .77 miles per hour......

That means in 4 Lo and 1st gear and an idle speed of 700rpm you will be going a total....snail pace....rock crawling speed of .77 miles per hour!

If the engine will maintain a lower idle in 4 Lo and 1st gear....possibly 600rpm that would equal close to .66 miles per hour.

We may have a kid in the next few years so that will give me plenty of time to pick up a used one. I'll need the room since the CJ has no backseat.
