I am looking to purchase my very first Jeep and am looking at two in particular that are very close in price but different mechanically. First off they are both 1995 Jeeps. Both 4 cylinders both pretty much stock. The differences that I have noticed is that Jeep #1 is a Rio Grande Special Edition with a 5 speed, 71K, and an ugly tan color cloth seats. Jeep #2 is just an ordinary jeep (no Rio Grande), 60K, automatic and better grey seats that are vynil. I will be using this to go off road so the lower miles and vynil will be good but what is this Rio Grande package? Is it worth putting up with the nasty color and higher miles? Main question is what does the Rio Grande offer that the stock jeep doesnt?

Go with the regular Jeep, They are just different cosmetic
options on the jeeps...Go with lower miles And ................

i myself have a rio grande and love it....i would definitely prefer the manual over the auto....plus, you can get bestop trailmax seats for cheap and upgrade to vinyl[addsig]

Rio Grande is just a trim package, some more gaudy that others  Sounds like it's up to wether you want a manual or auto. The 5spd will have 4.10 axle gears, the auto has 3.73 gears.

Make sure the manual shifts smoothly, be very careful if it grabs any between gears.[addsig]

There are some larger differences between the '95, early model and late model. The late model are more akin to the TJ, with TJ tailgate hinges, hood bumpers, throttle body, serpentine belt routing, and a few others. The early '95 YJ's are different and more akin to the '94.

Check out the build date on the door tag. **/95 is what you're looking for. Many call the late '95 the '95.5 or '95 1/2 :-D [addsig]

Real tough call here.....The lower miles sounds tempting, but I prefer a 5-speed over an auto anyday............If it were me, I'd have a mechanic (unless your quilified yourself)check out the 5-speed and if she checks out allright, I'd go with her...however, what you need to be asking is what do YOU want...which one meets your needs. That is the question you need to be asking....yourself :-)

Well what would be ideal would be to have the lower miles and the stick.... but I am not for sure how hard this is.... Could they exchange the trannies and if so would it be hard? About what would you expect to pay for something like this to be done?[addsig]

Just do it yourself if not you are looking at alot of $$$$$
for a transmission and install...Where are you located??? :-D [addsig]

Oklahoma City

Someone said it was a pain and that I would need pedals, wiring, computer, blah, blah, and yadda material.... if it is so easy I would certainly pay you well then if you could do it in a weekend I would even put you up in my very own home and feed you very well. Plus payment and Ill purchase the parts... how much you think it will cost?

this would be ideal cause then I would have the 3.53 gears, low miles, stick, and the color I wanted. .... let me know how much it would cost parts and labor and I will pay.

I don't know how much it would cost ...depends
on if you want a new transmission, or a used....so forth
and so on...I would helpyou no problem ..if you
got all the parts...It would cost more than what
you will pay for the jeep probably..just depends on
how you went about it...used or all new........ :-D :-D [addsig]

I wouldn't go through the trouble and $$ to change from an auto to a stick for a small difference of 11K miles. You don't want the 5spd and 3.73 gears, you want the lower 4.10 and even lower if you plan on installing larger tires.

I've got a '95 2.5L 5spd and love it.[addsig]

doesnt sound like you're sold on either of those jeeps, so my advice would be to get neither and hold out until you find the jeep that is right for you. :-) [addsig]

I would have to agree with this...point blank your going to be stuck with this ride for a couple of years till you either fall in love with it and live with it for a long time or chop it up and burn it...
The first biggest question I would ask my self is what do I picture 'my Jeep" looking like in 1 year.. 2 years ect. Jeeps on a whole are vary modifiable and your never stuck with color packages and equipment. There isnt one part that you cant replace ecpt the name. Picture your future jeep and see what is out there that maybe has some of what your looking for. Transmission change overs are a big hassle, so are engine swaps. But if your dead set on doing it make sure you have a back up ride for the next week or so. Nothing is as "per the book" on swapping parts.[addsig]

Rio Grande is just a trim package, so no real difference mechanically. Usually came with a center console, maybe an overhead soundbar, maybe air, and a rear seat. Also had funky seat patterns.[addsig]

well , I DRIVE ONE, and it doesnt have a console, no soundbar, no air, but it does have a back seat heh. all standard patterns. now really.. whats the difference!?! lol[addsig]
