door pins

Just bought 2003 Rubicon and cant figure out how to remove the hing pins. for lack of better description, there is a round nut on the end of the hing pin bold, but its recessed in the bottom of the hinge and i cannot get to it to remove it. Has anyone ever seen any like this or is it something...
